Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
When one is suffering emotional pain, the distressing symptoms experienced have meaning. They make sense when viewed in the context they came out of, as an atempt to protect oneself from a difficult historical or present day situation. This process may operate outside of our awareness. However, the seeds for healing are in understanding the connection, and in finding the resources to make new choices. We often have the resources inside ourserlves, but feel stuck in outdated patterns of behavior and don't know how to activate them to move beyond old patterns. The process of therapy can help free us from this impasse. My orieintation to therapy is a psychodynamic approach, informed by cognitive therapy, interpersonal family systems, object relations and attachment theory. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as a method to help process trauma, resolve old patterns, and build a new sense of self.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
