Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Finding a therapist you connect with is extremely important. I have worked extensively with individuals, couples, and, families, to improve, or repair, their relationships and their lives. I specialize in relationship issues, traumas (including victims of crimes), separation, divorce, and mid-life changes. I believe everyone has the ability within, to enhance their lives, their relationships, and to stop the pain that has become unbearable by depression, anxiety, grief, and/or loss. I practice a modern, psychodynamics model, including, Object Relations and Relational Theory. I also tie in Bowen's, Multigenerational Theory as I explore family of origin helping clients understand dysfunctional patterns they bring from their family of origin and past painful traumas or relationships which affects their life functioning today. I pull techniques from many other modalities such as Cognitive or Gestalts, (i.e. utilizing 'deep breathing exercises and the empty chair' '). I have also had training in EMDR, Hypnotherapy, and use 'deep relaxation' as a tool to help lessen anxiety symptoms. I have worked extensively in trauma and have years of experience with domestic violence and sexual assault issues, working with survivors and also with court or DCFS ordered DV perpetrators. I have gone through the Kinship Center's Adoption Clinical Training and worked with adoptive families. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families, first tending to stabilize the families structure, then concentrating work with the parents both with marital issues, parenting, and have also worked with blended families, sometimes with two sets of parents. We all suffer losses, from the time we are born, some, very severe and damaging. We also bring with us the pains, traumas, and dysfunctions, from our childhood, and past relationships. Learning how those influence our choices today is extremely important in improving our currant relationships and our life today. I believe that relief from pain, and healing, are possible once individuals, couples, and/or, families, become aware of how and why, their relationships became so dysfunctional and chaotic. As they acquire constructive tools to help enhance healthier patterns, relationships improve, and all around functioning becomes calmer and happier. Please call for a free consultation to see if I may be the therapist you feel comfortable with.
