Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
With an integration of complimentary approaches, including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Ms. Kirk tailors treatment to that which is most helpful for each individual. Insight into the dynamics that originated and continue to maintain problems is very important, but it is often not enough. Developing the willingness to experience fully a wide range of emotions is one factor that makes change possible and will allow you to feel at ease in your life. Ms. Kirk specializes in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Phobias, Social Anxiety) and Eating Disorders (Anorexia, Bulimia, Compulsive Eating, Compulsive Exercise). Her interest in Eating Disorders began when she was the Student Director of the Weight Control Clinic at San Diego State University. After becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Robin co-owned Summit Eating Disorders Program in Sacramento, California. Many of her clients also suffered from an Anxiety Disorder and she became very interested in the treatment of anxiety, including OCD. After attending intensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Robin developed an intensive program for Anxiety Disorders that combines Exposure and Response Prevention techniques with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Ms. Kirk is a graduate of the International OCD Foundation Behavioral Training Institute. Robin has presented on the subjects of Eating Disorders, Self-Mutilation and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. She provides supervision for psychotherapy interns and consultation for licensed clinicians. Ms. Kirk is a member of California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, International OCD Foundation, Anxiety Disorders Association of America, Association for Contextual Behavioral Science; in addition, Ms. Kirk has served on the boards of the Sacramento Eating Disorders and Outreach Program, Sacramento OCD Foundation, and Sacramento Valley Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
