Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Pain and dissatisfaction are often what lead a person to seek therapy. I believe therapy is an opportunity to transform pain and dissatisfaction into clarity and more satisfying relationships with others and oneself. So often people choose to manage their pain with distractions such as food, alcohol, and unhealthy relationships. I am committed to helping my clients use their personal struggles to grow and achieve a higher level of functioning and personal happiness. My style is warm and intuitive, while at the same time thoughtful and engaging.

I specialize in couples work and issues related to pregnancy and family planning, in particular gay and lesbian family planning. I am also interested in working with couples’ intimacy and sexuality issues, and believe sexuality offers important insight into a couples’ relational dynamics. I speak Spanish and have several years of experience working with Spanish-speaking individuals and couples.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
