Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
The main reason I became a therapist was to work with the hearing-impaired. My sister is deaf and I grew up immersed in deaf culture. I am proficient in sign language and recognize the need for comparable services for this special population. My philosophical framework is eclectic. I am a humanistic therapist who utilizes many modalities including art therapy, role-play, and cognitive-behavioral. Spirituality permeates my approaches to meet the needs of the individual. I also have specialized training in drug and alcohol counseling. Before any healing can occur, addictive patterns need to be released through an honest, open dialogue in conjunction with a program such as AA or NA. Any problem has a solution if the individual is willing to be introspective and face the issue with an open mind and heart. "Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing there is a field, I'll meet you there."
