Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a psychotherapist with a private practice in a Spanish building called Plaza de la Cruz, located in downtown Santa Cruz, California. I love my work. I would be considered an eclectic therapist; I have a multi-oriented and multi-disciplinary orientation to doing therapy. I have a vast knowledge and experience base to draw from consisting of various types of psychological and behavioral theories and techniques. But even more importantly, providing therapy and support comes naturally to me, as if I were born to do it. I have always had an expressive and inquisitive personality, being genuinely interested and curious about people. I understand that no two people are alike, so therefore, each person in my practice gets their own unique therapy that is custom oriented and designed for that individual. It's always interesting to get to know people on a deep and intimate level, and I feel entirely honored to be invited to the process of doing therapy. I have been working in this field for 22 years and have been in private practice full time for 12 years. My area of expertise covers a wide range, including but not limited to: multicultural issues, womyn's issues, GLBT issues, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, anorexia/bulimia, relationship issues, childhood issues, life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, addiction. My approach to therapy I view as a team approach. I believe I have much to bring to the table, yet the clients are the real experts of themselves and whom direct and approve or veto whatever therapeutic path we travel. This approach enhances safety for the client which is necessary in order to take gentle risks that promote growth, wellbeing and self-empowerment. My natural style would be considered interactive. I offer insights, observations, suggestions, feedback, homework, etc. as well as attentive listening. However, I am quite adaptable and am easily able to adjust my style according to what works best for the client.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
