Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
These days it seems as if we are all confronted with increasing demands at work, in our personal relationships, and within ourselves. And although we often find ways to cope with these pressures, an overwhelming problem or an unexpected crisis can leave us feeling off-balance and uncertain about how to proceed. At such times, talking with a counselor – whether individually, with your partner, or with your family – can often build needed understanding and support, as well as help you discover useful ways to deal with the issues that more concern you.

As a clinician who has counseled individuals, couples and families for over 28 years, I recognize the importance of approaching your personal concerns with sensitivity and respect, and of attempting to create a counseling experience that will be both safe and helpful for you. Please call me to obtain more information or to schedule an appointment

Kelly Duggan Shearer, M.A.
Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
