Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I provide a safe, open-minded and supportive space for the people I serve and believe in providing practical tools to use, here and now, in managing and regulating the emotions of grief, loss, betrayal, confusion, anger, worry and anxiety. Through the years, I find that negative self-talk is a common obstacle that can be overcome by learning about awareness and acceptance through deep relaxation and cognitive change. There are times when it is important to return and face a history of abuse or trauma, an incomplete grieving or a significant life event. My training/experience has included work with victims of crime, survivors of abuse or domestic violence and people suffering from the effects of family traumas. I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Corrective Experience Focused Therapy. I also draw wisdom from acceptance based theories and Buddhist teachings on mindfulness, the breath and somatic work. When working with parents and their children, I utilize parent-child interaction techniques. Ofrezco ayuda en Espanol.

Is your relationship suffering, hurting or just not flourishing as you want it to be? There is hope in every situation, no matter how dark the present moment may be. Please send me a short or long message letting me know about your needs or questions. Let me know about what you are struggling with to find out whether I may be the right therapist to help you. I look forward to hearing from you. Children and Teens Just as adults, children and teens may struggle with anxiety, depression, anger or low self-esteem, or may be going through a difficult life adjustment, such as a family divorce, a loss, or a move to another part of town. Some children or teens have experienced a traumatic incident and wish to begin a healing process. With a combination of individual child sessions, collateral sessions (parents only), and family therapy sessions, your family can begin a journey toward growth and happiness. With children and teens, I utilize talk, art, play and/or movement therapy, whatever the best fit might be for each individual client. Bicultural-Parenting Skills (Espanol) ~ School setting only "Bicultural-Parenting Skills Training for Spanish Speaking Caregivers." FORMAT: The group will meet for 18 sessions of 90 minutes each. Parents master skills through interactive activities, role-plays and psychodrama. Parents generalize skills at home and community through weekly logs, homework and interactive feedback in class.

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
