Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I offer a warm and inviting counseling office to help you comfortably share your experiences, pains and struggles and receive the validation and support that you need and maybe haven’t yet received in your life. I strongly b?elieve in working with clients and families in therapy to find solutions to your unique problems and struggles, so you can grow to have a healthier and happier tomorrow. Through counseling, I also strive to help clients discover the underlying reasons for current struggles, to allow for a deeper level of healing, growth, sustained recovery and happiness. I will explain mental health issues during counseling so that they are understandable and offer a new perspective. I believe that you already have the resources within you to solve your issues and problems and to heal from your past. My job as your therapist (counselor) is to help you tap into that wealth of undiscovered knowledge, and I will assist you in learning to actively use this new knowledge in your life outside of the counseling office. I have lived in the Sacramento Valley my entire life and have been practicing therapy in Yuba City since 2007. I live locally and enjoy raising a family of my own. I graduated at the top of my class from California State University, Chico, with a Master of Science in Psychology. I have worked with a wide range of client issues in many settings and with different populations. I’m skilled in treating depression, anxiety, panic, PTSD (trauma) and stress and have worked with these issues since I started practicing therapy. I have extensive experience counseling adolescents and children including troubled youth in the foster care system and gang-affiliated youth as well. I also have extensive experience with trauma and sexual abuse, and I have counseled rape survivors and victims of sexual assault and their families through a rape crisis center. I am trained in crisis counseling and have worked with suicidal individuals through the county mental health system and various other settings. I am very experienced with the LGBTQ+ population and offer LGBTQ+ affirmative counseling. My training includes Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. EMDR is a specialized therapy that has been developed to treat conditions such as posttraumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, anxiety, stress reduction, addictions, sexual/physical abuse, trauma, disturbing memories, etc. EMDR has been clinically proven to effectively treat these issues, and I have attended seminars and specialized training in this form of therapy. I also completed an Analytical Review on EMDR in Graduate School, and I have read well over a hundred articles on this form of therapy. I'm also an AATBS Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT). CBT is another form of therapy that can help clients solve their current problems by looking at the relationships between their cognitions (thoughts/beliefs) and behaviors (what you do) to challenge and make changes in these areas. CBT has also been proven an effective form of counseling for a wide variety of issues presented in therapy. I actively practice other forms of therapy and can provide additional counseling services as well and would be more than happy to share these with you. I also provide depth counseling and can integrate this into therapy for individuals who want to improve their daily lives and make their lives more fulfilling and meaningful.

Are you stressed out? Do you sometimes find yourself snapping at your children? Would you describe your relationship with your husband as “distant”? Or do you feel like you are going to lose it if someone doesn’t give you a break? Being a mother, wife, or daughter can stretch us to our limits. During times like these it can feel like the world has been turned “upside down”. There is HOPE! You don’t have to figure this out alone. Let’s talk and see if I can help you make things “right side up” again.
