Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
It takes courage and humility to call a therapist to ask for help. My primary goal will be to help you to feel safe, comfortable, understood and respected. In addition to listening attentively, I will look for opportunities to provide you with effective skills and strategies to help you to create the positive changes that you desire. Together we will develop a plan that will help you to utilize your personal strengths and resources to cope more effectively with life challenges and to begin experiencing more peace of mind. I have extensive experience with helping people to recover from anxiety, depression, chemical dependency and other addictive behaviors. I enjoy helping young adults to effectively navigate their 20s. Teaching practical stress management strategies, emotional regulation skills and effective communication strategies is often part of treatment. I have been working as a counselor since 1985. In 1992 I obtained my MFT license and opened my Private Practice. I worked for Santa Cruz County Mental Health as a Senior Mental Health Client Specialist for 22 years in colaboration with local schools and the Juvenile Justice system.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
