Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that works with individuals that suffer from what is known as Impostor Phenomenon (IP). These individuals have become highly successful in their career, education, or art despite a difficult upbringing. They have doubts about their ability to maintain this success, and don't believe they are worthy or deserving of that success. Frequently, they did not have their self-worth reinforced by parents, or had parents that were very critical of them, causing them to be anxious, perfectionists, have low self-confidence and self-esteem, be overly critical of themselves, obsess over their mistakes, and exhibit OCD behaviors. Often times we aren't conscious of the negative thinking patterns that influence our emotions and behavior. I help individuals become aware of the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Through increased awareness we will reduce the frequency and intensity of negative thoughts, therefore, reducing the depressive or anxious feelings that accompany them. In addition to working with individuals struggling with depression or anxiety caused by IP, I help couples communicate their needs and expectations clearly, and in a healthy manner, so that they can begin to experience the happiness that may have disappeared from their relationships.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
