Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I work as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Marin County, California. In addition to my private practice, I conduct trainings and workshops to psychotherapy interns, drug and alcohol counselors, parents, and students. After receiving my Masters of Science with Honors in clinical psychology from Dominican University, I continued my studies at the University of Berkeley to complete advanced trainings and certification in areas such as Substance Abuse, Systemic Family Intervention, and Drug and Alcohol studies. I am a registered California Addiction Specialist, a member Psi Chi—The National Honor Society in Psychology and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT). I completed my clinical internships at Family Service Agency, Ohloff House in San Rafael as a counselor in their Intensive Outpatient Services and Bay Area Community Services (BACR), working with high school students as a drug and alcohol counselor and provided trainings to school based counselors. I began my career as a high school teacher before moving into the television and film industry as an assistant director, independent producer, and executive producer before eventually opening my own production company. In my 20 years in the industry, I produced national television commercials, music videos, documentaries, movies, and classical concerts, throughout the US and in over 20 countries. As a therapist, I bring my education, life experience and clinical training to help guide our work. I combine these powerful tools with a willingness to suspend judgment, think creatively, and remain truly engaged to develop new perspectives and skills that move you toward creating the life you want. I work with adults, couples, teens and families, many who have been impacted by the negative consequences of drug and alcohol abuse. I tailor my therapeutic approach to each individual or couple based on their particular style, temperament and issues presented. I have found that specific theories tend to be limiting. One size does not fit all and my knowledge and practice is based on components of a variety of theoretical orientations. Working with me you will find a safe place to talk about what is most important to you. With a blend of wisdom, understanding, intuition and humor, we work together—as a team—to help you achieve your goals.

Therapy can be hard work and takes courage. Everyone possesses his or her own unique blueprint. I tailor my work with individuals, couples, and families to successfully attain short-term goals or craft long-range solutions by utilizing a variety of approaches matched to specific needs or expressed desires. I have worked with and supported adults, teens, children and families as they learn new ways to address life’s challenges and live a more joyful and satisfying life. At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
