Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in the field of addiction. I help adults and adolescents find a new way of life free of their addiction of choice, whether it be alcohol, drugs, gambling, or food. I help couples who are struggling in their relationship to explore more meaningful ways to relate to one another for the purpose of decreasing marital or relationship tension and conflict. I also work with families who need assistance developing more adaptive communication patterns. By working on the relationships in a family, families can learn to interact with each other in more meaningful ways. I also enjoy working with adolescents who are underachieving in school due to personal problems or issues. My other specialty is mood disorders such as depression, in which I help my clients replace dysfunctional thoughts with more adaptive ones. This change in thinking leads to feeling better and results in healthier behaviors. I incorporate both solution focused and cognitive behavioral interventions to help my clients Iearn to focus on strengths and resources rather than past problems and failings. I am aware of the important role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. I look forward to developing an enriching relationship with my clients to help them achieve their own personal change.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
