Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
By the time most couples come to my office, they're frustrated, discouraged, and tired of going in circles. Many think their problems are insurmountable, that they're beyond help. Very few couples are beyond help. If your relationship is in trouble, don't wait. And don't give up. I have been in practice for over 30 years, specializing in psychotherapy with couples. I bring extensive training in relationship dynamics, marital systems, and sex therapy. I use a collaborative, positive approach that makes sense of what's hard and offers tools and encouragement to even the most troubled couples. My work is based on the premise that relationships work better when partners become less reactive to each other and can develop the clarity, stamina and anxiety-management skills they need to talk and listen openly about issues that have seemed unapproachable and, therefore, remained irresolvable. Regardless of your past, or your parents, or the challenging person you picked, with the right kind of work and the right kind of effort, you can get to a place where your relationship is more sane and more fun, where you have the skills and understanding to manage difficult issues, and the two of you can be close and caring.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
