Personal Statement:
I love to learn and teach. To me, that is what being a therapist is about. Providing therapy, clinical supervision, and clinical training in community and specialty community mental health agency settings, schools, and private practice has afforded me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients, clinical concerns, and other professionals. In my private practice, I focus on professional development for therapists and a variety of therapy services for clients. I look forward to answering any questions you may have about how we might work together to best address your goals for professional consultation, clinical supervision, or therapy. There is nothing more rewarding to me than those moments when you come to believe that you really do have what it takes to change some aspect of yourself or your relationship, career, or other part of life and that you now know how to get “unstuck” and move forward. In pursuit of these moments, I continue to be amazed by how strong you are, even when you don’t see it – and I rejoice in the times when I can remind you of your strength. It is exciting to be a partner in planting the seeds for healing and positive change, even though I don’t always get to see the bloom as you move forward outside of therapy, building on the strength and skills you brought to treatment and combining those with the skills and knowledge you take from it. I bring to you the benefit of my education through academic, personal, and professional experience so that I can teach different and better ways of being. But, equally important, I also come to learn of your experiences, feelings, and thoughts so that I can be in partnership with you all along the way. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I specialize in assisting you as you work through relational issues and am also able to assist you with a multitude of other concerns. We will work together to determine your therapy goals and how to best meet those goals so that our time together is both effective and efficient. Danae is passionate about helping her clients to increase their understanding and build their skills in order to reach their therapy goals in as short of a time frame as possible so that they can move forward more successfully. She focuses on working with couples (and ex-couples) who are seeking support for: a healthier separation/divorce process, better co-parenting after a separation/divorce, healing from infidelity, pre-cohabitation/pre-marital concerns, and/or trust/communication issues. Danae also works with individuals who are healing from abuse, loss, and/or death and/or who are struggling with anxiety and/or depression. Her family work is often with clients in blended/“step” families coming together and families experiencing parenting challenges with their minor and/or adult children. Throughout her career, Danae has worked with individuals, couples, and families and with clients from age 4 to seniors. She has extensive experience in working with client concerns such as: anxiety, depression, domestic violence, parenting, substance use, trauma, and U.S. military veteran issues. Seeing clients since 2009, Danae has helped a wide variety of clients in multiple community mental health settings in addition to those she sees in private practice. Since 2014, Danae has enjoyed working as an individual and/or group Clinical Supervisor for Clinical Social Workers , Marriage and Family Therapists, Professional Clinical Counselors, and Psychologists who are working toward their license in California. She also supervises licensed mental health professionals who are in need of additional clinical supervision for legal, ethical, and/or clinical concerns. Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
