Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I spent 40 years as an elementary teacher. I've taught every grade level Pre-K through 8th grade and special subjects. My focus now is therapy with individuals and families, adults, children, and teens. Many of my clients have experienced trauma through domestic violence, sexual assault, violence, and other traumatic events. I understand the difficulties families have going through divorce and child custody, CPS, and legal issues. I've co-facilitated the county Non-Offending Parent group, been Clinical Manager and safe house therapist for a Placer County agency, and taught sections of the Crisis Intervention Training. I believe the therapist and client working together is the best way to achieve the client's desired goals.

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
