California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists

CAMFT The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) is an independent, professional organization of over 34,000 members representing the interests of Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) throughout the state. It is dedicated to advancing the profession as an art and a science, to maintaining high standards of professional ethics, to upholding the qualifications for the profession, and to expanding the recognition and awareness of the profession.

CAMFT activities revolve around two interrelated themes:

  • the advancement of marriage and family therapy as an art, a science and a mental health profession, and
  • the advancement of the common business interests of its members.

CAMFT is an organizational advocate that represents needs and concerns of California’s most highly trained therapists. It monitors and works cooperatively with regulatory boards (such as Board of Behavioral Sciences), the state legislature, and others. CAMFT sponsors bills and works to enact laws passed to benefit therapists, their patients, and the community.

Similar to other professional or trade associations, CAMFT is a special interest group. Its main interest is pursuing therapeutic goals which are good, both MFTs and for the public they serve.
