Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Do you feel alone and lonely even in your closest relationships? Are you so stressed, angry, or sad that you seldom feel really content or relaxed? Do you wish you could "stop the world and get off" for awhile? Therapy is a good place to do just that. To help you figure out what's not working, and new ways to approach old problems. Most of us never took classes on "Healthy Relationships" or "Effective Communication." We're all just doing the best we can every day. Maybe you want to learn to talk to your partner without getting into the same fight over and over. Maybe you want to figure out how to get your teenager to stop talking back. Or maybe you just need a private place with someone to talk to – someone who won’t judge you. Unlike some therapists, you'll find I do more than nod my head supportively. In our first meeting I will ask you what you hope to get out of our sessions, and will stay focused on what you are needing throughout our work. I have extensive training in both brief and longer-term therapy, and I try to balance constructive advice and honest feedback with empathy, humor and warmth. When working with couples, I teach communication skills, and how to TRULY LISTEN (something most of us never really learned). In addition to helping you break out of patterns that aren't working for you, we’ll work on building on your relationship strengths. I don't take sides, but instead help each person see how they can be part of a solution. You may be surprised that you even laugh in sessions! While I don’t work individually with children or teens, I LOVE working with their frustrated parents! Please visit my website at or call me with any questions you might have about my work, fees, or your insurance coverage. Start now to feel better.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
