Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in learning more about my practice. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults, and families. I enjoy working with a wide variety of ages and issues, and I feel honored to have had the privilege to participate in such meaningful and life-enhancing work. I have practiced psychotherapy with children, adolescents, adults, and families since 2006, working with well over 100 clients during this time. My bachelor’s degree is in Biological Sciences; my first master’s degree is in Animal Behavior, with a focus on primate behavior and evolutionary psychology; and my second master’s degree is in Psychology, with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy. I was awarded an M.A. in Psychology from the Professional School of Psychology in 2007 and became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 2011 (#MFC49504). I have been employed as a therapist at the Sutter Counseling Center in Sacramento, at Terra Nova Counseling in Sacramento, and at EMQ/Families first as a therapist for severely emotionally disturbed children in the residential treatment program in Davis. I have been in private practice since 2011. I am a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and serve on the Board for the Yolo-Solano chapter. I am currently the Website Manager and President-Elect for my chapter. I moved to Davis in 1986, where my husband of 20 years and I are currently raising our twin boys and younger daughter. In addition to being a practicing psychotherapist, I have an active yoga practice, I am an avid reader, and I write and perform music. My focus is on strengthening a client’s ability to form secure and fulfilling relationships, which serves so well to help us weather life’s difficulties. My understanding of my clients is based primarily on developmental, object relations, attachment, and neurobiological models. My approach is empathetic, client-centered, strengths-based, and solution-focused. I partner with my clients in a warm, supportive, non-judgmental, and safe environment. I infuse sessions with optimism, kindness, and a gentle sense of humor as we join together in creative problem-solving to work through difficult issues. I strive to help each client realize the full potential of his or her inner and outer resources for healing and personal growth. Each client’s therapy is unique, based on his or her individual needs, and I utilize a variety of techniques, including talk therapy, play therapy for children, sand tray therapy, art, filial therapy (play therapy between parent and child), family therapy, bibliotherapy, breath work, mindfulness, sensory exercises, creative visualization, cognitive behavioral interventions, behavior modification, and gestalt therapy interventions. I will provide a free 30-minute telephone consultation, if you would like to learn more about my practice and how I work as a psychotherapist. I look forward to talking with you, and I hope we have the opportunity to work together!

Are you stressed out? Do you sometimes find yourself snapping at your children? Would you describe your relationship with your husband as “distant”? Or do you feel like you are going to lose it if someone doesn’t give you a break? Being a mother, wife, or daughter can stretch us to our limits. During times like these it can feel like the world has been turned “upside down”. There is HOPE! You don’t have to figure this out alone. Let’s talk and see if I can help you make things “right side up” again.
