Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
When is the last time you felt true joy? Are you or a family member finding that daily stress, relationship conflicts, or low self-worth are interfering with your well-being? Are symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, or a serious mental illness creating a significant challenge for you in just getting through each day? Therapy is an investment of time, effort, and resources, so finding a good therapist that will "get" you is key to success. I would feel privileged to accompany you by being there to listen, guide, offer perspective, and provide support along with concrete tools you can use to achieve your goals. You may be seeking counseling for an issue that has challenged you throughout your life, or are looking for help with an adverse life event, such as grief and loss, a traumatic experience, or depressive episode. Or you may be feeling "stuck" and are interested in personal growth to increase happiness and self-fulfillment. I use a client-centered approach to revolve around your concerns and goals. I have a great deal of experience working with codependency, adolescents/young adults, LGBT affirmative, families and couples, trauma based symptoms, and mental illness symptom management. Talking about your feelings, thoughts, and experiences can be overwhelming at times, and having a different form of expressing yourself may be a positive option for you. I like to incorporate expressive arts techniques, such as writing and art, into the therapeutic process when appropriate for the client. The theoretical orientations I draw from include family systems, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, solution-focused, experiential, mindfulness, and narrative frames of reference. If the above list of therapy theories reads like psychobabble nonsense, don’t be discouraged. I will be happy to explain any or all of them to you in a free 15 minute phone consultation. I encourage you to shop for a therapist the way you would shop for anything else. Try it out and see how it feels.

About My Practice

Office Hours
Monday through Wednesday 10am-7pm, Thursday and Friday 8am-6pm, and limited appointments on Saturdays 9am-1pm.
I provide individual, family, couples and group therapy for adults, adolescents and children. I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my client's individual needs to help attain the personal growth they’re striving for. I am committed to providing my clients with the tools they need to better navigate their lives and enhance their relationships. Many of my clients are working toward a better understanding of their self-identity and self-worth, and benefit greatly from therapy to enhance positive forward movement in their life. I really enjoy working with people to build a foundation of “self,” and help to create a solid base of core beliefs and values from which to make decisions and define goals. This structure of your self-identity will propel you to where you want to be. I also work collaboratively with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, school personnel (IEP and special education), social workers, and other outside resources with your authorization in order to provide better continuity of care for my clients. If you have these needs, please notify me and we will discuss how to coordinate services. Help yourself start feeling better by contacting me today. If you feel nervous about taking the next step, perhaps it will be comforting for you to realize that starting therapy is often a lot easier and more comfortable than anticipating the therapy process. I encourage you to call or send me an email to get started now. I will answer any questions you might have with your free 15 minute phone consultation, and if you would like, we can discuss your reasons for seeking counseling. Or if you prefer, we can just set up an appointment to meet in person. I look forward to hearing from you and getting to know you personally. I work collaboratively with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, school personnel (IEP and special education), social workers, and other outside resources with your authorization in order to provide better continuity of care for my clients. If you have these needs, please notify me and we will discuss how to coordinate services.
