Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My approach in therapy is to create a safe, open and non-judgmental environment where the client gets to explore the issues at hand. I stay curious, engaged and supportive, while helping clients explore issues, interpret meanings and ideally, to see new choices in their life. I believe many of us are caught in patterns of thinking/acting which we are sometimes unaware of, and by understanding ourselves more, the stage is set for additional growth and happiness. I also bring these beliefs in my work with adolescents and am constantly impressed by the way they are able to step up and meet these challenges to grow within themselves and to take more responsibility in their lives. Services
I specialize in working with Adolescents and young people. I have been working with Teens since 1995 and typically see them for the variety of issues, including Self Injury (cutting, etc.), Depression, Anxiety, Anger Issues, Oppositional Challenges, Substance Use and Crisis Issues, including Suicidal Thinking and/or behavior. Over the years I have given numerous presentations at schools (Teachers/Staff, Parent Groups, Student Groups) about a variety of issues related to Adolescents. I have also written articles on teen issues and trained future therapists in this area. My experience includes being a Crisis Counselor in an Inner-city High School for more than a decade. I am currently working on a book for Adolescents about these issues. I also specialize in work with Men and have seen them for many years, individually and in the Men’s Groups which I have facilitated for more than seven years. Additionally, I conduct Family Counseling as well as provided consultations for Therapists, High Schools, Teachers/Administrators, and have taught classes to future therapists at Cal State Hayward.
