Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
“… It is clients’ self-healing capacities which make therapy work.” [Arthur Bohart] My approach to psychotherapy is very practical: over 25 years I’ve seen that people have an intrinsic well of healing and resiliency within them. When people feel encouraged, this source of becoming whole is unstoppable in its positive effect. The sky is the limit. This encouragement most often happens in relationship. Few of us had all the encouragement we could use in early life and all of us feel lit up by the right kind of encouragement. In an encouraging therapeutic relationship, clients flourish when they feel accurately perceived and related to in a warm and empathic way. Research says clearly that it is clients that make therapy work, in the context of a good relationship with the therapist. Which ‘method’ the therapist uses is less important.

About My Practice

Office Hours
9 am to 7 pm
My professional life the last 25 years has been working with people as a therapist, coach, teacher and bodyworker. From this experience, and my personal work of deepening and expansion over four decades comes the aliveness and genuine contact I authentically offer clients in psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families. The breadth and depth of my mature life experience informs my work, with an open heart and deep mindfulness. How may I support and encourage you?

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
