Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Every life has problems. You deserve help with yours. Despite everything we do, life can be hard. You may feel stressed, afraid, worried, or overwhelmed--or you may only know that something is wrong. As a counselor, I can offer you a safe, confidential space for you to talk about whatever concerns you. You will be heard without judgment or harshness. I will be there to listen, ask questions, and suggest actions you can take to improve your life. I use multiple kinds of therapy, based on what has the best chance of helping. Often, negative thoughts need to be corrected. Sometimes, today's problems have their roots in past events, especially negative childhood experiences. Whatever approach I use, you will be heard with compassion, understanding, and respect--and that alone is healing. QUALIFICATIONS I have the experience to handle most situations, and I will offer referrals if I feel I'm not the best person to help you. In addition, several things may make me uniquely qualified to work with you: * my personal experience with problems of depression, anxiety, and poor social skills * many years working at high-tech companies (including one that went public) * my ongoing study of the brain and how people change * my experience working with people on issues of meaning, spirituality, and significant life changes * over 40 years' experience overcoming major life challenges and improving my own life GETTING STARTED I offer a free first session, which allows you to get to know me without worrying about the cost. I want everybody to get the counseling they need, so I offer a sliding-scale fee based on income. Your sessions may be as low as $30. You are on your own journey, but I know a lot about the landscape you're traveling through. I can help you find a path forward that leads to health and growth. I invite you to give me a call.
