Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I bring to my clients ten years experience as a marriage and family therapist. I’m empathic and accepting in my approach and tailor therapy to the unique needs of my clients. I believe strongly in the old adage that the way we perceive ourselves and our world makes all the difference in the world. Removing the obstacles inhibiting honest, creative and realistic self (and world) appraisals, can be an effective key to experiencing a more satisfying today. I also believe that resolving current difficulties sometimes necessitates bridging an emotional connection between the present and past. My therapeutic approach is a creative blend of cognitive and dynamic methods aiming at addressing here and now problems and finding resolution to the haunting past. I provide services to individuals, couples and families. I also do group work with those in drug and alcohol recovery and for those encountering life transitions.

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
