Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
As a psychotherapist for approximately 30 years, I use psychodynamic and cognitive approaches to help a wide range of people with stress, relationship challenges, bereavement, health concerns, job dissatisfaction and general life transitions.

Seeing ourselves through the lens of pathology is much less productive than discovering what fears and obstacles we can overcome to finding out authentic selves.

The more we let go of stress, tensions, old behaviors and patterns that no longer serve us the more we can enhance our lives. Often, in just a few sessions a person can achieve a shift in perspective that allows them to integrate new ways of thinking and coping.

I feel that there is nothing more satisfying than helping someone find happiness and discover the strength and resilience they never knew they had.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
