Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Using experiential modalities such as art therapy, play therapy, sand play and role play, I have found self-awareness and positive change more accessible to people. While these modalities are an obvious choice for children and teens, they also work well with adults who might otherwise get 'stuck' in traditional talk therapies. I am eclectic in theory and tend to use theories that support the uniqueness and inherent health of individuals and families. Specializing in children, adolescents and families, I often work with parenting and couple's issues that impact the family as a whole. I also work with victims of crime, issues of loss/grief, I facilitate a children's bereavement group at a local hospital and I'm available for art therapy consultation and supervision. In the Fall, 2002, I will be starting 'EXPRESS YOURSELF: art therapy groups for pre/adolescent girls and for women, teaching the use of art process for personal development.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
