Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I offer short and long-term therapy for individual adults, couples and groups. I work very relationally and honestly, attempting to understand the issue from the client’s point of view. Sometimes practical skills and coping tools are useful. Other times, learning about how past experiences or current patterns contribute to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or other distress can be a step in increasing self-confidence, developing more satisfying relationships, and getting more of what one longs for from life. I was selected by Stanford University to be the therapist for two research studies looking at what contributes to effective therapy. I work in an Oakland private practice close to the Rockridge BART station, teach at the Wright Institute, teach and supervise at The Psychotherapy Institute and The Women's Therapy Center. Previously, I was the training director at Parental Stress Services (Family Paths) in Oakland and facilitated outpatient groups at Alta Bates Hospital. I am deeply committed to alleviating suffering, increasing the potential for meaningful connection with others, increasing satisfaction in work and making room for balance and pleasure in one’s life.

During times like these it can feel like the world has been turned “upside down”. There is HOPE! You don’t have to figure this out alone.
