Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
After spending many years in a psychiatric hospital (as a therapist!) and in private practice, I learned a few things from treating well over 10,000 patients. First, we all go through some rough patches as we move through life. Second, our problems often seem to occur repeatedly like failed relationships, personality conflicts with family and friends, or addictions of various kinds. And third, you may be realizing that if you could’ve figured out what the problem is and how to fix it, you would’ve done it by now. Which brings us to why you’re reading this right now…it might be time to get some help. But who? Do you want someone to support and encourage you as you identify and work through possible options? Or do you want a more directive approach to get relief now? This much I’ve found to be true: 75% of getting better is recognizing the real issues. And they may not always be what you think. This can be a thorny process but will make a huge difference if you’re willing to be open, honest and real. Which is how I work. My direct, solution-focused, no-nonsense style isn’t for everyone. But if your relationships keep running out of gas…if you’re sick and tired of the way things are going and aren’t sure what to do next…if being “happy” is a struggle…or even if you’ve been in therapy before and found it unhelpful…maybe we should talk. I am a licensed therapist, national board certified, and a member of both the California and National Associations of Marriage and Family Therapists. Finally, remember, the problem isn’t the problem…the solution is the problem. I believe I can help but why not decide for yourself? Call me, and let’s talk for a few minutes. You’ll know.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
