Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I became a Marriage and Family Therapist because I believe we all have the ability to change in a healthy way, but often could use someone to assist us to take the actions needed to make those changes. I learned from personal experience the difference a good therapist can make as we face painful transitions and consequences of bad decisions, and returned to school so I could learn to help others come through painful times in their lives, and to learn to make better decisions and minimize painful mistakes. I work with people in recovery from substance addictions and compulsive behaviors using a 12-step philosophy that acknowledges spirituality. Through this process we focus on personal responsibility, compassion for self and others and how to listen and communicate effectively. I work with adolescents, men and women, individuals and couples using a family systems perspective and assist clients to communicate effectively. When appropriate I use EMDR which has proven to be an effective and very useful tool for resolving the impact of emotional trauma. Philosophically, I don't think there is anything more important to us than our relationships with Self, a higher power, and each other. To this end my work as a therapist is to assist others to have the most fulfilling relationships with themselves and others as possible.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
