Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
In my Lafayette office, I specialize in working with children and families. This includes young children from age 5 and up, teenagers, and couples. Family therapy approaches can vary based on the presenting issues. When working with a child, the parents and other primary caregivers are always included in the process. Teenagers sometimes need a private space all their own; at other times, adolescent therapy can include regular family sessions where I assist teens and their parents in discussing or mediating various topics. Couples work focuses on improved communication, as well as assisting couples in understanding their unique dynamics as a couple and their own willingness for individual change (as opposed to changing a partner). In addition to providing the above services, I am also employed by the California Superior Court of Contra Costa County as a child custody mediator and evaluator, and I am considered a court expert with regards to appropriate parenting plans for children whose parents do not reside together. In my private therapy office, I offer co-parenting counseling for divorced families and child custody evaluations for families that have a court case in a county order than Contra Costa County.

Are you stressed out? Do you sometimes find yourself snapping at your children? Would you describe your relationship with your husband as “distant”? Or do you feel like you are going to lose it if someone doesn’t give you a break? Being a mother, wife, or daughter can stretch us to our limits. During times like these it can feel like the world has been turned “upside down”. There is HOPE! You don’t have to figure this out alone.
