Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Inside each of us is the power for healing and growth. Yet, over the course of our lives, it is common to develop self-protective aspects within our personalities that become self-defeating: relationships flounder, self esteem suffers, hope for the future fades. Feelings of frustration and despair may take over. Normal losses may trigger complex grief reactions that feel overwhelming and unresolvable. Counseling and Psychotherapy, guided by insights from Self Psychology and Attachment Theory, can provide a compassionate understanding that helps us resolve difficult feelings and situations. The therapy relationship can become a facilitative process that revitalizes a person's innate capabilities for healing, growth and hope. Tom Davis, MS, LMFT, PhD, has over 20 years experience as a counselor and psychotherapist. Presently practicing in his hometown of Rochester, MN, Tom previously maintained a private practice for 15 years in Santa Cruz, CA. He is especially interested in the healing exploration of childhood histories.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
